OUR

JOURNEY

"In the Heart of the Community with a Heart for the Community"

Welcome to our community of believers. New Horizons is an independent church affiliated with the Australian Christian Churches (ACC, formally AOG). We are excited about God’s love, the saving work of Jesus and the Holy Spirit who enables us for ministry.

As a family-oriented church we desire to show love and value for everyone as we experience life together and connect with our community.

New Horizons Church is a part of the Australian Christian Churches (ACC, formerly AOG) movement. We are a pentecostal church that believes in the transforming power of the Holy Spirit. For more of “What We Believe” please scroll down to that section below.

New Horizons Church was started in 1990 by Pastors Allan and Jennie Herman alongside a faithful team of people. In those days the church was known as Whittlesea Assembly of God. We used the very same building we are using now, however, back then access was limited to Sundays. People arrived early to roll out carpet, set up chairs, sound system etc. We are now the main leaseholders on the building and utilise it for many events, programs and office space throughout the week.

In 1995 Pastor Shane and Millie took on the roles of senior pastors. Under their leadership, the church flourished, from a congregation of 12 to a congregation of 100+ meeting every Sunday.

In February 2009, Whittlesea, Kinglake and the surrounding suburbs experienced one of the most horrific natural bushfire disasters our nation has seen, Black Saturday. New Horizons Church, along with the other local churches pulled together to reach our community with the hope and love of Jesus. Hundreds of people in the community were affected through the loss of lives and properties, however the churches in the area, and the care they provided remained constant.

In October 2010, the New Horizons Church building received a face lift. People from the church pulled together in giving, planning and building to complete renovations so that the capacity and aesthetics of the building were improved.

In October 2012, New Horizons started a campus church 10 minutes south in Doreen. Pastors Bruce and Meralisa Langford led that campus till the end of 2016. Doreen and Whittlesea campuses have rejoined and are strengthening each other in this season preparing for what God has next.

During the covid pandemic of 2020, Rohan Buijs, as Ministries director oversaw the transition to streamed services. The year culminated in a milestone event: our online Christmas Community Carols. In February 2021, Rohan Buijs supported by his wife, Liz, and family, became Lead Pastor. He has led the church into being purposeful in our ministries and aiming for balance as we disciple believers and reach the lost.

Today, New Horizons Church is a thriving, Spirit-filled,  Jesus-centered church which many people call home.  We pray that you will be greeted with a smile and feel connected in such a way that you too will feel at home in New Horizons Church.
