Generations Minister/Pastor

Job type:                            Part time (16 hrs. a week), pro-rata, paid position initially on a 12-month term.

Core work areas:         Children to Young Adults with a focus on youth

Reports to:                       Senior Pastor

POSITION SUMMARY

The Generations Minister (Pastor if credentialed) is responsible for leading and coordinating ministry activities across multiple age groups both individuals and those within family contexts.  This includes development, overseeing, discipling, and mentoring leaders ensuring spiritual growth and equipping young adults for leadership particularly in youth ministry. The role also includes broader involvement in church life through contribution to special projects or events on request of the Senior Pastor.

The Generations Minister at New Horizon’s Church needs to have:

  • a deep love for Jesus Christ and His people,

  • a passion to see young families connect with God in a real way,

  • a passion to look beyond structured programming to create community connections and create faith pathways for young families in the Whittlesea area,

  • a passion to see God’s Word and Spirit transform lives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

Support the Senior Pastor and church leadership team:

  • To achieve the mission of the church to make followers of Jesus Christ.

  • To inspire others toward practical outworking of the church vision.

  • Contribute to strategic planning for next generation ministry areas (children, youth, and young adults) with a particular focus on youth ministry.

Lead and manage programs and activities:

  • Leadership and implementation of the Generations Ministry strategy, with responsibility for setting goals, measurable outcomes, and regularly reporting on progress to church leadership.

  • Develop a team of committed volunteers, ensuring alignment between individual giftings, skills, callings, and ministry needs to foster effective and spiritually fruitful service.

  • Supervise, support, and empower Generations Ministry team members, including delegating tasks, managing resources, and fostering a collaborative team environment.

  • Coordinate and support Kids Church leadership team and occasionally facilitate teaching sessions as needed.

  • Provide oversight to the Youth and Young Adults Ministry Coordinators, ensuring they are well-equipped, resourced, and supported to lead effectively.

Community development

  • Develop and strengthen partnerships with Whittlesea Secondary College to enhance opportunities for meaningful community engagement and outreach.

  • Oversee and ensure the effective planning, management, and execution of Generations community development initiatives (e.g., Red Frogs Skate Park Ministry), ensuring alignment with the church’s mission and values.

Program development:

  • Design and implement age-appropriate programs that clearly communicate biblical principles and foster spiritual growth and awareness of God in children and young people.

  • Ensure all Generations Ministry programs align with church-wide, cross-generational learning goals and discipleship outcomes.

  • Collaborate with children’s leaders to develop a children’s ministry curriculum that supports the church positional statements of faith.

Pastoral care:

  • Pastorally care for and disciple generations leaders.

  • Provide mediation and conflict resolution if necessary for generations ministry leaders.

Training & equipping:

  • Ensure all volunteers are onboarded well with current integrity checks and mandatory training completions up to date.

  • Assist with the facilitation of ministry based and toolbox training as required to build team skills.

General administration:

  • Ensure that all ACC and church guidelines and policies are followed when planning and implementing programs including completion of activity risk assessments.

  • Ensure the church database of volunteers and participants is maintained.

  • Develop and manage allocated budget areas in a financially responsible manner.

  • Meet with the Senior Pastor on a regular basis to report and review work activities and programs.

  • Regularly attend New Horizon’s Church services.

  • Regularly attend leader’s meetings.

Other

  • Assist the Senior Pastor on occasion with preaching, teaching, and leading worship.

  • Work in a way that always reflects biblical teaching and the values of the church.

  • Be open to and develop creative ways to assist with discipling others, growth of the church and reaching out to the community.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Diploma or degree in Theology or Ministry or currently undergoing theological training.

  • Minimum of 3 years of in a children’s/youth ministry leadership role with pastoral experience.

  • Teaching qualifications advantageous but not essential.

  • Experience working in a child safe organisation with safeguarding best practice ways of working.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

  • Efficient and effective in both independent and teamwork environments.

  • Excellent verbal, written and personal communication skills.

  • Operates in an accountable and transparent manner.

  • Has an ability to identify skill gaps and train leaders as required.

  • Highly competent in the use of all MS software packages and web-based communication software.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Committed Christian who has a calling to church-based ministry work.

  • Demonstrates an ability to lead and develop ministry teams.

  • Experience in creating and implementing ministry initiatives.

  • Competent in training and equipping people for ministry.

PERSONAL QUALITIES

  • Shows respect to those in authority, is teachable and willing to receive guidance and advice.

  • Commitment to church growth and seeing children and young people make commitments to follow Jesus and to grow in their faith.

  • Actively responds to God calling on their life, with commitment to allowing Him to work, practice spiritual disciplines and grow toward spiritual maturity.

POLICIES & PROCEDURES

This position description is the primary document outlining the requirements, nature, function and relationships of the role.  It is to be read in conjunction with the following church documents:

  • New Horizons Church constitution and organisational structure,

  • Church strategic planning documents,

  • Church policies and procedures.

Integrity Checks

  • An employee working with children’s check,

  • Recent Police Check (within the past 12 months),

  • Divers Licence.

Probation & Review

This position has a three-month probationary period with a review at the end of the first 6 months from the date of employment. An opportunity will be given to provide feedback with regards to the future development of this position on review.

Following a twelve (12) month review, New Horizons anticipate an opportunity will be made to extend the term of this contract.  With this will come the opportunity to negotiate tasks, responsibilities and hours according to the emerging requirements of the church.
